Arts & Culture Night
Washington Elementary, 420 N 200 W
Washington Elementary students celebrated the Marmalade District this winter with their first annual art contest. All student entries explored the many things that make our neighborhood special. Library patrons can see portraits of our neighborhood’s racial diversity as well as numerous physical landmarks including: fruit trees, historic homes, Warm Springs, the Capitol Building, Salt Lake Acting Company, and, of course, the new Marmalade Library. These works reflect student’s belief that our neighborhood is a site for beauty, creativity, and friendship.
Coordinated by Washington families, all artwork was adjudicated by professional judges SpyHop, David Pace, and Randee Levine and has been installed with the support of Washington's Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program Specialist, Laurie Shea, who also created the mural behind the Library with students from the Salt Lake City School District.
