Things Lost to Time
An Exhibition of The City Library's Special Collections
Compared with many cities in the United States, Salt Lake City is a relatively young settlement, being only 170 years old. Yet in that time span, many cherished buildings, institutions, and cultural icons have vanished from the scene. This exhibit of Things Lost to Time, drawn from rare books, photographs, and ephemera from the Special Collections of the Salt Lake City Public Library, will rekindle memories of places and events that once defined the City. What famous rock ‘n’ roll bands did you see at The Terrace? Did your grandmother’s fur coat come from ZCMI or Makoff’s? Who was the original Wizard of the Wasatch and what did his name, Hatumai, mean? Come take a trip down Memory Lane in the Special Collections Reading Room at the Main Library and discover what we have lost.
