Mapping the Journey
The Child Refugee Experience
Art created by refugee children and curated by designers from the BYU Department of Design.
Since Utah was first settled, it has been a place of refuge for people seeking safety. It is still considered one of the most welcoming states in the U.S., specifically to refugees from all over the world. “Mapping the Journey” gives refugee children living in Utah an opportunity to “map out” portions of their personal journey.
We are a team of graphic designers from Brigham Young University who believe that the first step towards building bridges between diverse communities is creating a common ground of understanding and empathy. We believe that through sharing refugee children’s art with the community, we can change perceptions. We believe in the humanizing power of art and storytelling.
