Eid al-Fitr is the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting. Join The City Library as we break the feast together with a community celebration, a time for fellowship, renewing friendships, and family ties. The City Library's celebration includes crafts, a magician, and henna tattoo paintings!
Keynote Speaker Dr. Mahan Mirza will explain the importance of Friday congregational prayer, Ramadan, and Eid for the Muslim community. Mirza serves as a faculty member at Zaytuna College, and is a visiting scholar at Graduate Theological Union. He received his PhD in Religious Studies from Yale in 2010, and is an assistant editor of the forthcoming Princeton Encyclopedia of Islamic Political Thought.
As part of the Eid al-Fitr Festival, enjoy a screening of Fordson: Faith, Fasting, Football, the story of a predominantly Arab-American high school football team from a working-class Detroit suburb as they practice for their big cross-town rivalry game during the last ten days of Ramadan. 4-6pm, Main Library Auditorium.
The Eid al-Fitr Festival is sponsored by the Muslim Student Association at the University of Utah, the Muslim Student Association at Salt Lake Community College, and the Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake.
